Yeye Weller’s little characters are so cute! Always with a wink in the air, a smile in the corner and a thumbs-up, they give us the balm our hearts so desperately need. Mind you, nice doesn’t mean silly. If the German’s images provoke benevolence, the message they carry can be a tad more acidic. Generally inscribed with typographic virtuosity and a keen eye for the masters of the 1960s and 1970s, messages are an integral part of Yeye Weller’s work. Yeye Weller’s work as a draughtsman is coupled with an undeniable science of graphic design, both in terms of visual impact and the art of guiding the eye. It’s hardly surprising, then, that the City of London has entrusted him with its walls, as in 2022, for a cartoonish invitation to stop vomiting in the street. A slap on the wrist, but with a smile. Wink, wink.
